Last modified: November 6, 2009 - 10:54 AM

When school ends for the summer holidays, Armidale students will have the opportunity to explore exciting worlds, far away places and enjoy amazing adventures - all through the Summer Reading Club Program being held at the Armidale Dumaresq Council Library, 122 Faulkner Street.

In conjunction with Australian Information and Library Association (ALIA), the Armidale Library will launch their Summer Reading Club Program, Read on the Wild Side, available for children aged between 5 and16 years, on Saturday 28 November at 11am.

"Summer reading helps students return to school in the new year ready to learn, as well as enjoying greater reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension," Armidale Library Manager Ian Greenhalgh said.

"This year, an estimated 50,000 children across Australia will participate in Summer Reading Club programs. The Summer Reading Club extends across the whole summer, from December 1 to February 12, 2010, in order to promote reading and reading-related activities for children aged 5 to 16."

This year's theme is Read on the Wild Side and children will be encouraged to explore the library and the world through books and reading.
The launch will feature a range of games and activities aimed at encouraging children to register for the Reading Program. Registered children will receive incentives to continue their reading habits during the Summer Holidays.

The Summer Reading Club will culminate at the end of the holidays with a party, and registered readers will be invited to attend, with those completing their Reading Record going in the draw for prizes. For information regarding the launch, contact Annette Goodwin on 6770 3636.
