Community Safety Plan

 A Total Community Approach

The Armidale Dumaresq Community Safety Plan was implemented in 1999 to respond to community concerns about a perceived rise in crime and anti-social behaviour over recent years. The Community Safety Plan is an initiative of the Armidale Dumaresq Community Safety Committee.

The fundamental principle of the Plan is that a "Whole of Community Approach" be adopted in order to effectively implement the strategies contained within the Plan. The Plan aims to strategically address crime by identifying short, medium and long term strategies that address not only expressions of crime, but also the underlying causes and issues that can lead to criminal actions.

The philosophy of a 'Total Community Approach' espoused in the Plan encourages participation by the reader. Community safety is not just someone else's responsibility; it is also the right and responsibility of the individuals within the community. Only with mutual respect, empathy and understanding amongst all population groups are we able to create a safe and harmonious community.

This Plan is currently being updated and will be available soon.
